Spain is reinforcing its commitment to global health through a €5.25 million pledge via the Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), as part of a broader €60 million initiative announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in November 2024. This flexible funding strengthens WHO’s independence and capacity to deliver essential health services worldwide, supporting crucial programs in Jordan, Mali, and Sudan.
The renewed collaboration is further highlighted by Spain’s return to the WHO Executive Board (2025–2028) after nearly two decades, driven by its newly launched Global Health Strategy (May 27, 2025). This initiative signals Spain’s intent to play a more influential role in advancing global health efforts.
Spain will amplify its focus on health financing by hosting the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) in Seville from June 30 to July 3, 2025. This high-level event, co-sponsored by the WHO, will unite leaders from health, finance, and academia to promote sustainable health funding. The conference aims to drive bold action through the "Seville health financing agenda for action," reinforcing Spain’s leadership in advocating for robust and lasting health investments on a global scale.
