Dr. Frank Amoakohene: Ghana’s Youngest Regional Minister and Advocate for Youth Leadership
Dr. Frank Amoakohene is one of Ghana’s most dynamic public figures, a distinguished medical professional and a dedicated politician who has built a remarkable career in public service. Appointed in January 2025 by President John Dramani Mahama, he currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Minister, holding the distinction of being the youngest person in Ghana's history to assume such a role. His work seamlessly integrates deep healthcare expertise with a profound commitment to effective governance and youth empowerment.
Early Life and Academic Journey
Born in Accra on September 24, 1990, Dr. Amoakohene hails from Nsuta-Asuafu in the Ashanti Region. His academic journey began at Osei Tutu Secondary School, which laid the foundation for a distinguished career in health sciences. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Ghana in 2014, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 2020 from the same institution.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, he further specialized with a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (DMLS) from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in 2023. To complement his scientific expertise with management acumen, he also completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Accra Business School in 2024.
A Career in Leadership and Public Service
Dr. Amoakohene's passion for leadership was evident long before he entered national politics. During his university years, he was actively involved in governance and advocacy, holding several key student leadership positions:
- President, University of Ghana Allied Health Students Association (2013–2014)
- President, National Health Students’ Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) (2015–2016)
- President, National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) (2017)
This foundation in youth leadership propelled his transition into mainstream politics with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He ran as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Mampong constituency in 2020 and later served as the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, where he played a crucial role in party organization and strategy.
His dedicated service and leadership capabilities culminated in his historic appointment as the Ashanti Regional Minister in 2025, where he now spearheads regional development across healthcare, infrastructure, education, and public sector transformation.
